Shouldn't be a shock that they're planning multiple releases in advance. Not like we expect 3.0 to be the end of the line.

Right but now we can start speculating what will be included in the 3.1 update. I probably should get that thread started.

Hmm, that could mean a few things.

    Things from Helix ideascale?
    A fundamental OS change?
How important is 2.9 if you already working on 3.0?

In any case, I am happy to know that the Helix family is still the main focus of Line 6.

"How important is 2.9 if you already working on 3.0 ?"

Maybe some people at Line6 are working on 2.9 elements and other are working on 3.0 elements.
On the to do list, some elements are "ready/done" and other "under construction" ?

And also... making sure its a working update where everything actually works without problems is just as important as anything else. My guess is that much time goes into testing for bugs and stuffs.

The “they” working in 2.9 are QA/testers. The “they” working on 3.0 are developers. Different functions and a serial process.

People ask these questions, because they have no clue how product/software development works. For example, has anyone ever bought a new car when the MFG has completely redesigned that model year? Do you think it took them only a year to design that said model? If you go back and read the main Helix thread, if I recall, L6 gave hints on how long Helix was in development from ideas to product.

3.1, 3.2, all the way to 5.0 could be on L6 product backlog. We have no idea what their product lifecycle looks like and they are under no obligation to disclose any of it, and as they have stated, can't anyways.

I hate to be pedantic, but 2.80 didn't see the light of day until 18th July 2019!

Ah, who am I kidding? I am Captain Pedant! ;)

    I'll get me coat!

Perhaps they ran into some issues if 2.9 has been in the QA/testing state for months already.

It’s sick but it’s not mine it’s my good friend Kevin’s studio. He has 31 guitars in his collection and it’s insane. I use his studio for the backdrop and because with my grandkids home from school (11 and 5) it gets pretty loud at my place...in a non musical way :)

Exactly correct. There is no real timeframe for testing. How much code was touched how quickly we can squash the bugs we find will determine how long it will go. This update is more than just models so the test requirements are intense. It’s going very well and yes, as DI mentioned our Dev team are cranking away on 3.0.

What would you have them do to satisfy you, and how do you think it would impact the release to do so, assuming that they aren't going to hire a bunch more software developers?

I can sympathize. I have been testing software for many years and as the product gets more complex the test passes get larger to cover the feature set. There is a limit on what can be automated and if a significant bug is found the whole area will need to be regression tested again when that bug has been resolved. If you cut corners you really risk compromising quality. I think you guys are doing it right!
