Here is a little comparison... BLINDTEST! One of these songs is recorded with HELIX and other with AX8. Question is: which MIX do you like better? Do you here some significant differences?

    MIX1

    MIX2

    EDIT:
Here is a new comparison, where i added more treple, presence and Bias to the Helix tone. AX8 clip is still the same. Oh, and btw all the guitars are recorded with Helix on the Helix clip. Not just the rhythm parts.

    AX8

    Helix

Listening now as I prepare my confirmation-bias laced response.

...with that said; I enjoy the 2nd clip a little more. At least the ethereal parts stood out a little more between the two. Both clips were good.

Overall I liked mix 1 better, but I felt parts of mix 2 had a better version of the sound accurately described at 1:12 (in a great way):

These were outside the style of music I'm used to listening to (but pretty cool stuff). They were extremely close to my ear and if told it was two takes with the same rig I wouldn't have reason to argue the point. I slightly preferred Mix 1 simply because there was a small part of Mix 2 (~50-55sec) that just stood out to me as a little harsh. Were it not for that I might have picked Mix 2. I should note that my response is pretty deep into personal preference and not anything you'd call objective quality. Both were very good overall.

I liked the growl of mix 2 slightly better but I'd be damned if I could really say they weren't the same take twice. I'm going to say Mix 2 is the Helix. No watch and I picked the AX8 track and I will never hear the end of it...

I preferred mix 2 as the guitars just seem more present and clear... most importantly I love the tracks you post! Really good playing and arrangements.

2 was a tad brighter to me. I'll say L6 is 1 and FAS is 2.

Make sure that you not only praise the modeler that you like but simultaneously dismiss the modeler that you don't.

Mix 2 but honestly they are so close as to be meaningless. To the point where it could easily have been the same unit with just slight tweaks to the tone stack and effects. It would be interesting is to hear both of those tracks simultaneously in isolation - one panned left/right.

Either way - that was really cool and nice playing!

I like mix 2 better. My guess is that's the Fractal. But they're both quite good.

Ok so there's clearly a pattern here. Everyone likes #2. Which is which and share the dang patches already!

I actually think 1 is more detailed and clear, but 2 is a bit fatter/rounder sounding to me. Both really sound great, can't go wrong either. Gear is REALLY great these days, regardless of brand.

Huh.....in my car, I dug 2 a SMIDGE more. But honestly, it just sounded like the guitar tone mids were pushed on Mix 1, but scooped a bit on Mix 2. I'm pretty sure either could be EQ'd to be exactly like the other. In my studio headphones, I can't hear much difference at all.

I like mix 1, because the lead guitar seems to have more of its own space. For example, right at the :35 mark it's more distinct, less mushy. I've never played either Ax8 or Helix, so I'm not gonna guess which is which. Either one could be EQd to sound like the other.

Oh, alright. My guess is, 1 is Ax8.

I like #2 way more. The guitar is clearer and it sounds chewy and clear at the same time; I think maybe #1 is just too compressed.

Also: I'm not very familiar with setting up tones and mixes for this type of music, but the bass part doesn't seem to be as punchy and pronounced as it could be. Does your bass player use too much of a scooped tone or is it just the mix? I think he's playing a lot of notes on the B string, but perhaps the midrange is lacking?
