I thought the guitars in Clip 2 were a touch brighter .... so therefore my guess is that Clip 2 is the Helix ....... but then again .... :) .... could just as easily have been the same guitar but eq'd slightly different ;)

Second track was a little brighter. I'm going to guess it's the helix since it's a little more raw sounding. The first track's guitars seem a bit more polished and the distortion is a touch smoother. It might be just a matter of eq or amp model differences, but both sound fine.

This comparison is interesting to me because the tone of the guitar in mix 2 is what I what I would prefer personally, but I think think the guitars in mix 1 suit the song better. It sounds more in the mix and professional. The mix 2 guitars sound rounder and have more presence in the mix, maybe too much. It might be more suited for live playing.

I preferred clip 2. It has more teeth.

To me the guitar in mix 2 sounds just a little bit louder.

Just listening on my laptop speakers. Mix 2 has more mids and sticks out more in the mix. They both sound good to me. One isn't really better than the other. But if I had to pick, I'd say I probably prefer Mix 1. Gonna guess number 2 is Helix.

I have to imagine that the perceptible differences between the two have much more to do with how they are dialed in than the differences in modeler hardware.

I have no idea which is which but I like #2 better.

EDIT: I'm curious if you used the same cab IR in each unit. Sorry if you posted the answer and I missed it.

    I'm predicting 1 is Fractal, 2 is Helix. I've got a 50/50 chance.

Unless of course it's a well played trick and they are both the same modeler...

    Different amp sims and IRs.

Helix has Fatality amp sim and 3Sigma Zilla IR. AX8 has Fas Modern amp sim and OH Mesa V30 IR from Heavy Hitters Collection.

    Here are the results:

    MIX1 is Helix (15 votes)
    MIX2 is AX8 (24 votes)

But in these clips I added more treple, presence and Bias to the Helix tone and to me the difference is really, REALLY small now. Take a listen. (updated new clips to the OP as well)

    AX8

    Helix

The biggest difference I perceived in the two newest clips is with the reverb/delay/multidelay applied to the clean parts.

Seemed a bit more spacey and ambient on the tails of the individual notes on the AX8, but a bit more Particle Reverb on the Helix would rectify that, I would think.

I thought the 2nd clip was the Ax for that reason. I dug both clips on the dirt sections but the ambience was dialed more to my liking on the 2nd clip.

Just listening on crappy headphones and between the first two clips I liked #1 better because the guitars sat better in the mix. #2 sounds too bassy and some of the parts (like the delay) are either too loud or the volume balance is off. I'll go listen to the rest.

Edit: actually #2 sounds clearer but maybe the guitars are just too loud and overpowering the drums.

Edit 2: with the second clips I like the thicker tone of the Helix guitars but in the quieter passage I like the louder delay repeats of the AX8.

With all of the clips I'm not hearing "better vs worse" in terms of modeling just slightly different EQ and volume.

The second round of mixing makes it harder to tell. Really surprised how many people liked the second mix better. I found the first mix has more of a "lively" sound to it. But both sound really good.

    They both sound great.

I imagine that Helix 3.0 is going to be deadly!

    Good stuff.

I preferred the 2nd mix in each instance, and a bit surprisingly in both sets preferred the Helix regardless of mix.
