I'm a local musician from Yakima WA. I play guitar and sing with my band, Hot Barbeque. This band has existed since the late 90s and has gone through many transitions, with several players, a bunch of styles, and as few as two, and as many as seven members. It has been a lot of fun, and has always been a part time effort. Blues, reggae, old country, western swing, rock, rockabilly, we love it all. I also play a few solo gigs, a pretty recent development. Other than music, I enjoy skiing, motorcycles, a fine IPA and a bit of wine. Yakima grows about 75% of the hops used in the US, and there are many, many breweries in Washington and Oregon, and there are about 70 wineries in and around Yakima and the Yakima Valley. There are around 700 wineries in Washington. The wineries provide some musical employment for local bands, but most wineries are relatively small, and don't have big entertainment budgets. A few mega wineries and Indian Casinos hire a lot of mid level acts. The club scene in Yakima is spotty, most recently BMI/ASCAP/SESAC have been after local clubs to buy expensive licences and some places that had live music have dropped it, others have adopted an only originals policy, a some have told them to go away and stop bothering them. We'll see how well that works... That's about it from the wilds of Eastern Washington.
