    Hey guys

It’s that time again, time for a time machine... delay specifically.

I was on this mission about 12-15 months ago and landed on a Volante. Great delay and I’ve enjoyed it.

I recently plugged into a MXR Carbon Copy and it’s given me the major GAS for analog delay. The MXR Carbon Copy is GREAT, sometimes it’s too dark though. I may pick one up anyway.

I’ve got a $700 budget. So I can basically afford most analog delay options. I’d like modulation too. I’m basically considering most popular options (MXR CC, Boss DM-2, DMM versions, Moog, etc.)

Random question: for those that love the DMM tone... is it cuz it was intended to replicate tape delay.

For me the 80Tape In Limbo III is unsurpassed. I have two which have been the only unchallenged, constant pedals on my board over the last 5 years.

My number 2 would be the Analogman offering.

with that budget. grab a big box DMM and don't ever look back. worst case scenario is you make your money back on it, because at this point their value will never depreciate. but it is the gold standard for a reason.

If the Carbon Copy is sometimes to dark for you then I don’t think you should be looking at DM-2 or Bondi or Analogman or Moog because they’re all darker.

Maybe a Tonal Recall Red but I think that one is probably still as dark or darker than the CC.

Point being that the CC is actually fairly bright compared to many other BBD delays. Maybe you’d like the deluxe version with the bright switch?

DMM is ever brighter than the CC though so you might like that one. I agree with @bbsomm that given what you’ve described and your budget the DMM is worth a try.

80 Tape In Limbo Compact is also fairly bright and clear sounding.

This and I'd pickup a Carbon copy like you mentioned cuz it just rules for a typical sized delay with some nice modulation

    Bondi Art Van Delay.

Analog, 1200 ms delay time, modulation, tap tempo, two presets (plus more with midi) midi control over everything, expression. Less than 700 bucks, too.

    Sounds great!

Carbon Copy Bright, Deluxe, or Mini then? Same great CC sound, but brighter! (switchable on the deluxe and mini)

Diamond Memory Lane 2 is an option.

I love (and own) the MLJr but it's partly digital. I've never played the original analog version but if the Jr is aspiring to replicate it must be good!

I'm also a BIG fan of the DMM and while it's not a clone at all there is something about the Memory lane that reminds me of the DMM somehow. That's actually what drew me to the MLJr.

Chase Bliss Tonal Recall Red Knob Mod.

I have that (used before amp preamp inputs, after dirt pedals) and the Volante (used in stereo, in the loop of 2 amps) on my board.

My search for delay perfection ended with those.

all analog delay's are dark so you might want to try a digital delay that has an analog delay setting like the boss dd7 or dd8 or a tc electronic flashback II

As are a whole bunch of others and most of the others are built to higher quality standards but none of them, including this one, really fit for what the OP is asking about I don’t think...

actually, the Echophonic Jr. does fit the OPs requirements, which is why I suggested it, and why I own one.
