If you can find a current MIJ Aria Pro II PE Guitar those are really top notch guitars and pieces of art.

That is now the current plan. My travel companion has a spreadsheet of where we need to be the entire time. I'm nominally in Japan on vacation but I'm primarily there for the Tokyo International Pen Show (I'm a fountain pen collector). Thus I have to carve out time on Monday to buy a guitar. Also, since the tax goes up on Oct.1st, all of the sales end on the 30th. The Bizen is currently $1k off the normal sale price. It is too good of a deal to pass up and the store is the closest to my hotel.

Of course, new stuff keeps popping up. This guitar was just unveiled this weekend. The price is "Ask" which I interpret as five figures. The entire guitar is finished in urushi with beautiful raden work.

:( I wish that were true outside of Tokyo. I live in a small town in Japan and the shops in the cities around me are pretty crap.

I've been to Japan a few times, and among the locally build guitars I settled for Sugi. I had a custom DS496 commissioned late last year, and it was a pleasure to work with Nick Sugimoto. The attention to detail is amazing, and its sound is nothing short of gorgeous. I recommending contacting him if you would be interested in having one built to personal specs.

On a recent trip, I got try a Bizen at Kurosawagakki, Ikebukoro. Bizen also builds amazing guitars.

Where are you going in Japan? Just Tokyo? I also recommend some 2nd hand places like hard off (yes its really called that).

I land in Osaka for a day then on to Tokyo. I have a side trip to Karuizawa to visit Stylo Art Pens and a trip to Hiratsuka to visit the Pilot Factory. I'll try to hit some of the second hand places but guitar shopping time is becoming limited.

Are you referring to the national sales tax increase going from 8 to 10 per cent when talking about the tax going up on Oct. 1? Enjoy the hell out of your trip.

Ah .. What up, Joe? We crossed paths again. Im a huge fan of the higher echelon Aria products. One of the very first traits i consider is build quality.. my hats off to Aria; i really like my Neal Schon model. The neck and fingerboard are nothing short of fantastic. Again, i enjoyed your playing

If you are going to Japan there is only one guitar worth buying, the guitar that dares not speak its name, the mighty Fernandes Stabilizer Buck Tick signature model.

I have one on order from Fernandes which should be here in April 2020.

    TL;DR

Unless things have changed recently, I would never buy a guitar in Japan - the prices are significantly higher than anywhere else I’ve been (except, perhaps, Denmark street?).

when you are in tokio I'd recomend to visit the ESP shop in shibuya,
    they have just killer stuff,
also if you get a chance to check T's guitars I think you will have some fun,
    have a good time!

Those Studio lords are great. I have a Yamaha SG700S and those guitars are built to last. They sound good too!

How can we tell you what to buy? Play guitars and buy what you like.

Can't anybody make their own decisions around here?

This thread was more of a veiled way to introduce people to Japanese brands that they never heard of and to foster discussion. I was always going to buy what I was going to buy.

    I ended buying the Bizen.
