    Hi,

I'm looking to replace the factory tuners of a '56 Gibson Country Western acoustic. They are worn and shrunk. Would love to get repros that blend in, as this is a very worn guitar, with 60 years of patina and mojo.

Original tuners are Kluson Deluxe, single line, with oval plastic tips.

What's the most accurate and period correct modern replacement tuner I should get, and where?

Here's a pic (not my guitar) of what I'm talking about.

    Thanks,

    N.

You can just replace the buttons, and keep the old tuners.

I would get the gotoh all-nickel replacements myself; the modern plastic buttons will always look too new to me, while the nickel plating will age over the years.

Either way, the gotohs will fit right on with no alteration and are excellent tuners.

Just emailed Chris at vintagerelic.com. He'll take care of aging the Klusons for me.

    Thanks for all the replies.

The Gotohs are far better when it comes to backlash and slop in the worm gear. The klusons look OK but they are not as well engineered even with the ratio.
