12" speaker, it was put into a blues Jr before I got the amp. The only other marking on the speaker is on the back side of the speaker cone, it says "212A9-1". I would like to know what this is other than some sort of 12" alnico. The guy I got the amp from said it was a vintage Rola, but I'm not sure.

There were lots of speakers that looked like that one in the 60's.It looks a lot like a canadian made Marsland Alnico model.
It is not consistent with Rola's look.
It could also be a Japanese model.Does it sound good?
    I bet it's a marseland.
    Definitely a cheaper model.

I'm going with phsyconoodler on this one. I have seen smaller drivers in older asian loudspeakers that look like that. Don't be tempted to remove that foil on the sides of the magnet structure, the voice coil most likely has no protective cap around it.

Would have been interesting to see a pic of the cone.

I have a 15" version of the same thing. Its an el-cheapo Asian sweatshop thing. The magnet isn't big enough to get much volume out of it.

Yep, that's a woofer from a speaker system. Lower efficiency than a guitar speaker, and probably lacking some in the top end.

That woofer has no business being in a guitar amp...it was probably laying around waiting for a hole to be filled.

Well we can all rejoice that it no longer lives in my amp:)
