    Help...

I need to know what I would need to do this mod...if it's possible.

I want two sets of SC stacks instead of the two Hums.

AND... POSSIBLY want an SC stack routed and installed in the middle.

Clever switching might eliminate the need for it?

So what would I need to this?

I've seen these kind of PU sets around but I don't know what they are.

Why not contact Rich and Chris Rice at www.RiceCustomGuitars.com and ask for their advice? They're extremely knowledgeable, and great guys to boot :)

yuck! the results are going to look ugly, and with 24 frets, cramming a middle pickup in between those already close-together neck and bridge pickups might not get the sound you're looking for.

on top of that, the gibson-style bridge is not going to be the right spacing for strat-sized pickups unless you angle them.

i vote for not butchering that pretty guitar. the right humbuckers and creative wiring should give you all sorts of useful sounds without trying to force it into being something it's just not (and wrecking its resale value in the process).

    Probably good advice.

It is wired pretty creatively now, but I don't like the full humbucking sounds (and I can't record with the SC hum) so it's limited what I can actually use. Its wired like this:

    Neck:----H - S - S/S - S - H------Bridge. The middle coils are the ones used in S mode.

Is there a way to bring the other coils in on S mode with a toggle or something?

PS: any thoughts on switching to noisless P90 type of PU's in the existing routs?

there are methods using a 4-pole superswitch to give combinations like, say,

    neck series (normal humbucker)

neck parallel (brighter, thinner, still hum-cancelling)

    inner coils series

inner coils parallel (faux strat sound, especially useful on 24-fret guitars due to pickups being closer together)

    bridge series

if done right, all 5 settings are hum-canceling.

this is the kind of thing prs has done for decades with a 5-way rotary.

or for something completely different, lindy fralin's p-92 pickups will fit in humbucker holes and be more single-coil sounding while still canceling hum.
