This Gibson studio showed up on CL today and I know there are tons of fakes out there, which im am not pro at spotting yet. Its a good price and I would pick it up if its real.

Here are the pics

Looks real. Ask for a close up photo of the bridge and the back of the pickups and the pot chamber. The fake les pauls have the bridge screwed in rather then then threaded rod. OEM gibson pickups ( I THINK) have gibson stamped on them as well on the back.

It appears consistent with a 2007 Les Paul Studio Premium Plus in Natural finish. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any question about this model.

^^ In that case someone went to a lot of trouble to fake a LP Studio. Not sure what the purpose would be since the price point for used Studios isn't that high to begin with.

I repled to the ad and received this email back.

**** WARNING DO NOT CLICK THE LINK*****

"HI Schuyler Lane ,

I just sold out this to someone, but I can tell you where I got it from.
I just picked up 3 of these from www.allproductforsell.com and I resold them on here for some extra money.

The trick is to watch for bidding to slow down and then put in a bid. That's what I do and I win all the time.

Best Regards

James Dean

It was just a phishing ad to get my email address.

I don't think they have, at least some models. My luthier was telling me the other day that once the PAF sticker is gone, he has a real hard time convincing people that it's a Gibson pickup.

thanks for the help guys, after more detective work, turns out to be a bogus ad. I figured as much.

Wait - let me guess: the CL add said: email me johndoe(at)gmail.com

Or something similar. <sigh> And the only reason you possibly think it's a fake is that the seller wanted ~$300 for it?

It's the latest CL scam, it seems to be happening all over the country. Real pics of a Gibson/Fender with an outrageously low price. Catch is they ask you to reply not to the CL address, but to an outside Gmail address.

I've just been flagging them here in Philadelphia. Seems we are getting several a day.

In cases like this you have to remember the old adage: if it sounds too good to be true, it is. U$ 400,00 for a Gibson LP? Yeah right..
