This is a chance I get to ask real experts-you guitarists your preferred tone here.

This is a little ditty called Perfect Life

Examples are melody only, Two options

    Option 1
    http://scoredog.tv/PL opt 1.mp3

    Tele neck pup through Axe-FX

    Option 2

ES175 through Badger18 , added verb and chorus in logic.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Just an opinion.......I prefer Option 2 through my PC speakers. Option 1 sounds a little more compressed and processed..almost Mike Sternish...nice sound though. Blended well.

Option 2 seemed a little more open sounding, fatter & less chorused.

    Nice either way!

    Agree with the Slug ...
    Nice either way ...

However, I prefer Option 1 .. for some reason that sound is more appealing to my ears...

I feel the Chorus effect is really hiding the guitar tone on both clips. But if you are going for that thing I would say Option 1 the axe-fx. Option 2 is a bit clunky sounding and doesn,t blend so well with the sax. (which sounds great)

I was listening on headphones..... but Craig you are the guy with the magic ears I,m sure you can tweak it!!! :phones

Yeah I agree...1 blends better as is, it's obviously more of "that" sound. I think tone for tone of the guitar I like 2 but it does stick out a little more...might be a mix thing though. 1 would probably take less work to make it sit where you want.

    * I know sh*t.

    thanks...me too

that's why i am asking and also one gets too close sometimes for this.
I was surprised how transparent the Badger was. the clean on it can be super clean.

    EDIT

OK, after a few rounds I think I have the answer:

Use the ES175 with the AXE-FX for the best of both worlds.

    Really nice tasty playing Craig!

I think the chorus does seem to take away from the tone on both clips. The axe-fx one seems more seated in the mix - a bit darker and perhaps mixed lower in volume. The badger on the other hand is more in your face - and depending on what you want, its seems to have more detail to although that may be due to it being a little brighter AND louder.

Both work. I tend to like the Axe-FX/Tele Neck pup better simply because to my ears its seated better in the mix and blends better when you and the sax player are doing unisons. I know you're not going to be doing the mixing for this but it seems like the badger may need more handling by the final mixer than the axe-fx. I think the chorus on both needs to lighten up a little and be a bit more subtle, especially if you choose the axe-fx signal chain.

Hope this helps. Like the playing a lot.

I prefer the tone of the 1st clip. I think it sits better in the mix and is more appropriate for the tune. Wonderful playing.

so far ist tone leads by 4-2 and I think Andrew has a good idea, though I wonder how many takes of this I will need to do before I hate the piece.

First tone seems to fit in with the tune better.

Seems to sit better with everything else in the track. Great tuneage BTW
