I know there are other threads with the same general theme, but I believe I need some deeper help. I rebuilt a friend's EP-3: New electrolytics, drive belt, tape, felt, general (and thorough) cleaning, degaussing, etc.

The unit sounds great overall, but I cannot get it to go into "run away" oscillation. Bias level, rough azimuth, record level, and bias trap all seem to be correctly adjusted.

Any ideas? Your help is appreciated!

Ask someone at Orbit Electronics. They've seen a lot of them.

I recall reading somewhere that later serial # EP-3 models don't go into self-oscilation as easily as earlier units (or something to that effect)

(Then again I'm no reliable source, you know?).. :roll

You could call Orbit Electronics like Stratobuc said

Hey thanks so much! After reading this I checked my own EP-3, which goes into oscillation easily (serial number in the 3100 range). The one I'm currently working on is in the 12000 range....

    Again, many thanks!
