    Please help! [IMG]

I wanted to get my boyfriend a new guitar pedal for his birthday. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about them. I have attached a picture of all of the ones he currently has. Any suggestions on what I should buy?

    Thanks!

    Maybe a Rat pedal?

Where do you live? (Which is to say, where do you plan on buying the pedal?)

OK, he doesn't have much real dirt (distortion) on his pedalboard for being in a punk rock band, so I assume he uses his amp for most of his dirt?

A Rat, Muff, or fuzz might be something different to play with for distortion, punk/rock wise.

Also, depends on what type of "punk". (Who knew that would ever be the case?) If one of the not-just-amps-at-11 punk sub-genres, then some weird modulation effects might work.

But I'd most seriously consider a Rat or Muff.

Nano muff or mini fuzz face might be a good choice.

Well, this is TGP. For some, the ProCo RAT2 (the current version, AFAIK) and the ElectroHarmonix (EHX) Nano Big Muff Pi are too mainstream.

Your boyfriend already has an EHX pedal (Soul Food), so a Big Muff Pi (Nano or one of the other variants) should be quite acceptable.

There are a multitude of possible other brands, getting more and more boutique and more and more expensive. I'm sure others will have some modest and realistic delivery-time suggestions.

    Hope that helps.

New Rat pedals available online: Rat 2, Fat Rat, Turbo Rat, You Dirty Rat.

All fine. I have a soft spot for the Turbo Rat, but currently play with the pricier Fat Rat. The Rat 2 is great too.

Nothing wrong at all with a new ProCo Rat 2. If I had a girlfriend that gave me a Rat, ANY Rat, I'd lock that down with a ring on her finger.

The fact that you're cool enough to know to come on TGP, take a picture of his board, create an account AND ask for advice on what to give him for his birthday means you should be present enough. Hell, my wife just says, "What pedal do you want?"

Rat would be cool, I think he'd probably really like one of the Dunlop mini fuzz faces too. Either way, he's lucky.
