I have a Carvin X-60 combo amp and one of the two EL-34 power tubes fell out of it's socket and broke today. I have a gig tomorrow and need to fix this fast.
    I have a few questions…

-Will I hurt my amp if I replace the tubes without re-biasing my amp? (don't have the time or cash to do that)

-I live in NYC and a quick call around found me a pair of JJ's at Main Drag, a pair of Electro Harmonics tubes at First Flight and a pair of Groove Tubes at GC.

    Which would you go for?

If you have a strong recommendation for something other than above and know a place I should call let me know.

    Thanks so much!

Not rebiasing isn't likely to cause imminent danger, but it IS possible.

If you are in NYC, 30th Street guitars has a tech on staff, and they should have the tubes.

It shouldn't hurt it, but it may not sound its best. Any of those tube sets would be fine.

I'd be more concerned about how an EL-34 fell out of its socket. That shouldn't be able to happen.

I looked up that amp and it's supposed to 6L6's with spring clips. Modded maybe?

Good catch. Manual says 6L6GC. Still, any of those brands would be okay and they shouldn't just fall out.

Apparently the amp had 6L6's in it (Sovtek 5881WXT) and I love how it sounds so I'll try to find a pair of those.
JJ's come highly recommended while I've been told to avoid Grove Tubes. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!
