I mean, I'm ready to breakup a band I haven't even met yet (first rehearsal tomorrow), I can't imagine the pressure cooker those guys were in. It's all those things mentioned and probably a lot more.

They had made stupid amounts of money, and could indulge any lifestyle they chose. Why subordinate to a structure they formed when they were kids?

The day that stupid John mounted a microphone by Yoko's BED in the studio so that she could remotely relay her "critiques" of the Beatles' recording sessions to John was the beginning of the END!! :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

They got over it. Great while it lasted, come visit when you’re in the neighborhood. Other people were much more interested in the Beatles continuing than they were.

As far as Yoko goes, I think she was a result of where John’s mind was, not a cause. The movie Hard Day’s Night was a lighthearted romp, but I think it also was an accurate depiction of John’s feelings about the whole thing, even at that time.

Poor John destroyed his own ego with many HUNDREDS of LSD trips. A lifetime is too short for hundreds of acid trips. And then he met an earthbound demon named Yoko who was more than happy to give the rudderless shell new direction in life. :bonk

Well John was in no position to lead anything after '66 was he? He was a barely functioning acidhead. And then he met Yoko. :mob He was jealous and resentful of Paul, but at least Paul has his head screwed on. Basically John's personal disintegration + YOKO spelled the premature end. It's a shame, because John was NOT a spent creative force, as he later proved with his solo work. Jim Morrison was a spent force at the end, but not John Lennon.

I bought this recently and read the entire thing in a few weeks (a record for me as I usually stretch books out over many months or years!).

Stopped liking each other. Stopped liking being in the band. Too much pressure on the business. Too many distractions from the outside.

It's all the same reason. It ran the course.

They grew up and began lives that are incompatible with a band that tours heavily.

It's not talked about much but people in the inner circle point to John's heroin addiction.

They had stopped touring in 1966, three or four years before thir breakup, so that particular aspect wasn’t a factor.

It was the natural course of events. The group had run its course and the boys had become men with wives. They grew up. I don't think any of them except Paul wanted the Beatles anymore.

I’m surprised that nobody has asked aloud where 2HBStrat was in 1970?

Don't ask me, see what the other Beatles and Julian said over the years, along with almost everyone else except John.
