His voice has been shot for years. I saw him in 2006. He’d pretend to sing the high notes while a backing musician actually sang the part above a certain range. You have to practice stuff like that to pull it off reliably. It wasn’t him just having a bad night. It was SOP. Inexcusable rip off.

Elton John is singing everything about two steps lower than recorded. Back up singers take up the slack when they need to do so. That was the story when I saw Tom Petty in August and Fleetwood Mac in July.

Everyone has a tough time. Recall what happened to Judy Garland's voice. It is rare that an instrument is able to last a lifetime. Linda Ronstadt is selling tickets so fans can listen to her talk. Joan Baez is about two steps lower as well.

What a drag it is getting old.

Had to drop a tune I did in D in 75 to B in 2018.

Backup singers picking up the slack is one thing. Lip syncing while your backup singers do that is fraud. Maybe not illegal, but certainly something no artist who respects himself or his audience would do. I lost all respect for HL that night.

Donald Fagan let the backup singers finish phrases when I saw Steely Dan a few years ago. He didn’t pretend to sing those parts.

The important thing is that you're ok.

Don't try to play it off that you wouldn't do that thing you love to do for as long as you possibly could.

    That’s really awful.
An article said it’s a disease, not abuse, so hopefully it’s treatable.

A friend of mine, two actually, are in his touring band.

For a guy who's got reportedly the biggest swantz in music I'm pretty sure he'll find an alternate use for his time....

Dick jokes aside - I feel for any artist dealing with age and declining health/abilities..... but art finds a way and sometimes the expression of art through the ravishes of age and experience reveal new existential beauty.....

Menier's (sic) Disease is tough Mrs. BluntForceTrauma has it. Took a couple of years to be properly diagnosed then there is very little treatment available. Apparently the best cure is to go in and cut the auditory nerve to that ear. Which will make you deaf in that ear, but will cure the constant tinnitus and vertigo problems. Valium helps also by settling the nerves in the ear. The Mrs. has had a hard time. She has lost 2 jobs already because of it, but now seems to maybe have it under control.

After the garbage he pulled at the Wolftrap show during his Swingtown tour, I don't ever care if he tours again.

Still hope he recovers, just in the comfort of his own home watching endless repeats of Duets.

I doubt its Google worthy. He played nine straight songs off his terrible tribute to classic R&B before a single hit. The concert wasn't billed that way, he was getting booed, and there were mass walkouts. I ended up getting my money back. It was an absolute debacle and I have zero respect for him as an artist.
