We have added a "Hide Avatars" option for all members if they choose it. It will hide avatars in the thread view but keeps them in the forum index and subforum indexes so you can still see what threads you have posted in.

    **UPDATED JUNE 15 - see post #9**
    **UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2016 - http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?posts/22612202/ **

    How To:

Click or Hover over your name up on the right and click on "Preferences"

The new "Hide Avatars" Function is shown below in BLUE. It is available and works in both the TGP Classic and TGP Classic Dark themes.

**Here's how it looks in the TGP Classic theme:

ALSO: Please note the option outlined in RED. I'll do another thread about that; but that's to hide or show your email. There was no setting for this when the database was migrated; you have to choose one or the other. We recommend setting it to "Hide" and have people contact you through the board so you don't get spammed from unknown sources.

And it's the avatars in the forums/sub-forum index that caused the complaints I think? But it sure does save vertical space when you're in a thread.

Can we get rid of avatars when browsing a forum/sub-forum? I've gotten rid of them when browsing a thread.

Doesn't work on Mac in Firefox. I get one of these.

You have to select "Hide or Show Email" - it is required.

We need to REQUIRE avatars, not hide them! :D

We're working on this and think that we will have a solution within a few days. Rather than force everyone into one thing or another, we want to present all members with some additional options. Stay tuned!

I like the update .... faster loading, cuts down on the noise, easier to spot already-read threads in classic dark format.

There is also another feature added. An additional choice that members now have is to move the member info in each post from being on the left side (vertical) to being across (horizontal), which is how the old software was displaying things. Basically, you can now choose to see member info on the left or across the top of the post (which takes up less screen space) and you can do this with either avatars being visible or being hidden. The way to do this is to go to your user control panel (click on your user name) and go to preferences and then scroll down. There are some new options and just check what you want.

Awesome. Kudos to you guys for listening to, and implementing, members requests. I love the horizontal format.

Nope... don't like that one ... kind of a space steeler (6 or 7 line high window for only 2 or 3 lines of text)

I'm only seeing them inside threads, whereas I think they used to also show up next to a thread title. Inside threads is not nearly as annoying as scrolling through extra dead space as you browse thread titles.

I find them pretty annoying when browsing on my computer. Not so much on my phone (although they're fairly useless there since they're so small). It would be nice if this could get fixed.
