I absolutely love V's, but I equally hate how inconsistent they are. I've had 3 - one good, one so so, and one terrible. Alot of people I've talked to have experienced the same thing. I know any production guitar (i.e. Gibson or Jackson) can be like this, but why is it so prominent in V's? Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me? I've heard some suggest it's due to the small amount of wood and body mass. Any truth to this?

Also, I'm considering picking one up later in the year. Who are some high quality builders I should look into? (I'm looking for the more traditional Gibson look)

    Thanks,
    Frank

You can't go wrong with a Hamer Vector Korina http://www.hamerguitars.com/?fa=series&sid=501 if you want a classic look with a consistent build. I bought one four years ago, and it is still one of my favorite guitars. They are handmade here in the good old USA too. You should shop around, as I have seen the price of a new one vary by more than $1100. Side markers and inlays are real MOP too.

    Absolutely the Hamer Korina Vector.

Try one. I'm biased, but more because I've been spoiled by them. I'm not knocking any other maker of Vees, but I've tried and owned most of them out there and none come close for the price. The handwork/craftsmanship is unbelievable.

May want to add Dean USA to your list. Good buddy has the Dean USA Custom Michael Schenker V and it is killer.

Have also heard good things about Kurt Wilson out of Chicago.
Not sure if he's still making V's, but it looks like there are a few still at Maken Music.

    Happy hunting,

    Edward

I believe the US MAsters guys build the Dean stuff. The Dean stuff is great, so I imagine these would be as well.
