My GF heard our originals band play recently at a multi-band show. On our break, knowing that we have a show coming up later this year at a blues festival, I asked her if our music was blues, and she said, yeah, hippie blues! I've never heard of hippie blues, so I guess we created a new sub-genre of blues? Has anyone else ever heard of hippie blues? Is that a thing?

Well, the Dead pretty much started as a blues band with Pigpen and they were actual real hippies, but I've never heard that term. By far my least favorite era of the Dead.

You name it up, you, I got-get through with it, son-of-a-bitch

Hippie blues, eh? Big Brother and the Holding Company perhaps? How out of tune can you play? I could start to name other bands from that era—Allmans, Moby Grape, Sir Douglas Quintet. Albert King played the Fillmore. But now it looks like you could be in good company.

The hippi blues band was one of the terms to describe the Allman Brothers.

Bands I would put into that category are bands like Canned Heat, Paul Butterfield, and John Mayall. Maybe even bands like Little Feet. Also guys like Taj Mahal during the late 60's and early 70's.

Never heard the term but the Chris Robinson Brotherhood seem to fit.

I immediately thought of CRB as well.

Lots of shuffles and 12 bar blues in their live shows and peppered on the albums.

    Seeing them Friday night!

The Dead could do many things well, but playing the Blues was not one of them. I would never consider them a Blues band, regardless of era. They never had the right feel.

I would also like to thank all of you who have spelled hippie correctly in this thread.

A real hippie should be too laid back to actually get the blues.
