Check This Out, Its Awesome: 13 Pages of Custom Shop Les Pauls on the Gear Page!

Is anything better than amateur guitar porn? Grab yourself a bib and a broadband connection and check out this thread on the Gear Page. It's a lucky 13 pages of some of the most beautiful Custom Shop Les Pauls—Goldtops, Juniors, Oxbloods, Plain Tops, Flame Tops, you name it—that you'll ever see. Unreal. Just don't let your boss catch you gawkin' at it. Unless, of course, your boss is my boss.

The Golden Boy's peek-a-boo burst makes the Gibson site. Did they get your pic permission, Dave? Perhaps you can charge 'em. ;)

that's not how i see it. to me, it's a combination of understanding direct marketing (13 pages of pics of your product X thousands of dollars in revenue per post) as well as lazy journalism (let's post a link to an active site and call it an article, our customers will be flattered by the attention).

Oh whatever, man. People read all sorts of sinister implications into everything. Oh no: Direct Marketing!!! Who cares? Who is it hurting? It's not like Gibson snuck on the Gear Page and planted 13 pages of Custom Shop pics. Somebody there just spotted it and gave it a little shout-out.

I mean, I've played Teles my whole life. I wouldn't even play a Gibson with your hands, but that is a cool thread with great pics and I say it is cool for it to get recognized. Gibson can't win: If they ignore players they get flamed, if they acknowledge them they get flamed.

And as far as lazy journalism: I subscribe to that email newsletter, not sure how I got on there, and their writing and stories are killer. A couple weeks ago they had one of the best stories on the Replacements I have ever read, and their stuff on tube selection and tone tips are great. Give credit where it is due.

Now, if you'll excuse me, all this Gibson talk has made me miss my Esquire.
