Holdsworth is Holdsworth. I can't believe how much Dweezil has gotten better over the years. Good for him!

Dweezil sounds great. Very tasty playing, without going over the top.

Allan doesn't sound like himself here to me.

That won't go down as a favorite Holdsworth clip.
Is he experimenting with mico tuning?
    Dweezil sounds good.

Not Holdsworth's best, IMO. I can't imagine he was struggling with that simple vamp, so maybe he was intentionally playing completely outside so as not to step on Dweezil's toes (who is amazing, BTW).

Dweezil sounded more like Allan at 8:18 than he did!!!!

Ack, about half of that is entirely unlistenable to me. I respect Holdsworth, but honestly, about 2/3 of the sounds he's getting out of that rig and the note choices sound like something a novice guitarist might play, and the other "shred" portions seem to involve runs that barely have any relation to the tonal center of the jam. Zappa, on the other hand, sounds much better.

Man, that's so strange. I love Holdsworth, and that didn't sound like him at all. I wonder if he was sick or something? I also wonder if Dweezil was thinking "WTF" while Allan was playing? :huh

Also, side-by-side, I far prefer Dweezil's tone to Holdsworth. Not much of a plug for Carvin and Hughes and Kettner! :bonk

Weird. It sounded like AH had some kind of weird multieffector turned on - you can see him messing about with it up there. Not a great time to experiment. Yeah, DZ's tone was right on. And AH's tone usually is great but here it just had too much weirdness on it.

Odd: The nicest thing AH played was the short line right near the very end. He didn't really have his sound going. He was too busy playing with his new toy whatever it is.

Wow. Dweezil was always a damn good player but hearing him now, I'm floored. Brilliant!

Dweezil sounds fantastic. I totally hear Frank's tone and style in Dweezil's playing these days. Awesome!

Holdsworth's playing in this clip leaves me :huh.

    Always dug this Zappa tune.

i think Allan is just trying things out, why not? what's Allan got to prove. he's never catered to the mainstream.
i think Frank would've dug it

it looked like Dweezil had a good time

I remember getting Dweezil's first record. He was good then.
He has really grown and matured as a player but i expected nothing less from him.
i think he inherited some of Frank's work ethic and applied that to guitar.
i think it helped that not only was Frank a great guitarist but that Dweezil was also exposed to the many fine players that played with or knew FZ.
I think Allan and Frank had a friendship or at least knew each other so Allan with Dweezil is kind of like "goin home" for both players.

Kinda what i was thinking while i watched the clip...
    :huh:huh:huh

That other clip of Dweezil playing was great- he just keeps getting better and better.

And of course, we need a bit of the original:

Dweezil was amazing in that clip; I love how he has evolved as a player.

Holdsworth? I've seen him three times and at two of those shows he seemed completely lost(like here) but the other time he was ridiculously good...as you would expect from Holdsworth. It seemed like he was struggling with everything in this clip.
