Given that we often find Band names that are in use by someone else, as well as album titles that might be the same, I thought this might be partially relevant.

It irks me to no end when a current artist releases a song that has the same title as another song from the past (a popular one no less, and not a re-make).

But the trend is rampant in Hollywood it seems.

Sitting in front of the boob tube, "Crawlspace" comes on. I'm like "I remember that".

Well, this ain't the movie I remember.

In fact, there are NO LESS THAN FIVE movies with that title!

I've been seeing "Endless Love" recently and didn't know there was a new movie - thought it was the 80s Brooke Shields thing (don't think it's a re-make either, but I haven't watched it).

So, can you top my 5?

I'm not counting things that are basically the same movie - like re-makes or re-imaginings - War of the Worlds, Day the Earth Stood Still, Manchurian Candidate, Carrie, etc. don't count.

"Crawlspace" seems to have 4 full-length feature films that are definitely different plots (the 5th is a short film).

Can you think of any that have been used 2, 3, 4, or more times?

That's weird. Are they different spellings, or spaced (Crawl Space v. Crawlspace)? Maybe they have to buy the rights to the title?

I only say that because "Lee Daniels' The Butler" was supposed to just be "The Butler", but there was old film from the 30's with the same title and he couldn't use it. The same thing happened with Precious, where they had to add the authors name (Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire) because of a previous film titled Precious.

I think there are two movies called Crash. I like the Cronenberg one, never saw the other.

Quick search, it's apparently Awakening or Awakenings that holds the record at 34.

I think there was a rule in the 70's from the Motion Picture Guild that prevented or at least dissuaded the reuse, then it was abandoned.

Oh - yeah - I've been seeing this one.

Yeah, as some others have said,

    Crash.

I think there's more than one called "Rush".

    Googles in disbelief...

Well, I'd give credit to The Awakening.

Not all of them seem to be "hollywood" movies though (i.e. theatrically released in the states, or otherwise ones we've heard about).

But yeah - not sure if any are re-makes of earlier versions (or all from the same book, etc.) but there are quite a few.

Interestingly, the really good one (or at least most well known) is unique - "AwakeningS".
