Homemade lube?

I read on this board (?) that Chapstick is ok to lube the nut/strings. Is that still ok with Gibson's nitro finish?

What about petroleum jelly (Vaseline)? Do petroleum products adversely effect the nitro?

I use graphite powder called ez-lube. It's slicker and better than penil lead and you certainly won't have to worry about a dry power hurting nitro.
