i got that in high school (1981-85), one of my good friends described me as leonard d rock since i was the only guy rockin round with an electric. i had to play with college guys to be in a band
I suffered from O.C.D. in my youth, and was drawn to highly technical music....which featured mostly very fast playing (Chopin, Paganini, Tony MacAlpine, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Bach, etc).
My band was/is called Whiskey Rebellion from the event I learned about in junior high history class.
I picked the band name not because of any philosophical connection with the event, but because I just like the sound of the name. The name suits the sound of our band but sometimes I think it leads people to make assumptions about my background or attitudes.
In my haste to pick a name, I installed my Turbo Screen Name app and checked with The Minister of Puns and we came up with my name, HeyMrTeleMan.
Although I like Tele's, the name is a play on the old Harry Belafonte tune "Deo" (was featured in the movie Beetlejuice), where the the laborer shouts out "Hey, Mr. Tally-man, tally me banana!".
So of course the logical extension of that was, well, you know...
The Pretty Things 1968 LP 'S. F. Sorrow'.
Pete Townsend supposedly listened to it incessantly then wrote Tommy. Many consider it the trilogy of great Psych LPs recorded at the same place/time -Beatles St. Peppers, Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn and S. F. Sorrow.
The album was Produced by Norman Smith who did Floyd's Pipers shortly before and was an engineer on Beatles LPs up till Rubber Soul.
Personally I think the Pretty Things should have been as big as The Stones/Floyd. Lack of US touring back then was probably their downfall. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.F._Sorrow
