1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

I just picked up an early 90's Green Sovtek Big Muff. Does anyone know how I can date it? How do I read the serial numbers?

Get her some flowers, candy, and nylons. Then ask her to cook for you at your apartment.:roll

Just tell her you'll marry her and get her a green card.

Check the codes stamped on the back of the pots; that'll usually get you in the ballpark of the year if not the year and month.

You just said it was early 90's. There you go. :) There's no way to get an exact year. The Russian pots have no date codes.

I'm pretty sure I sold you that one. It was bought new from Long and McQuade in Toronto in August of 1994 if that helps.

its basically impossible to date them exactly.
you can get a ballpark figure by comparing enclosures and labelling differences but theres so many differences it will take you ages to figure it out.

Exactly. There were so many minor changes and inconsistencies that you'll have a hard time pinning down the exact date. '90s is the only real ballpark you get really.

Hmm ok. I figured it would be difficult to find the exact date, but I would still like to figure out at least the year

The year is what everyone is talking about by "exact date", not the exact day it was built.

As others have said, there is no way to exactly date the pedal, but this page should get you within a year or two of when it was made.
