What do consider "modern country music" -- major radio play stuff or just anything made recently?

Some damn fine country music being made today, lot of it being made in Nashville, you just may not hear it on the radio. Country radio has always been pop music, same as any other genre and there is plenty of crap in every genre.

I am more into stuff that gets labeled red dirt, americana or alt country. IMO it is a golden age for that kind of music. I am discovering new artists everyday and can hardly keep up with all the ones I want to listen to. There are people making things for all tastes.

Her new album is great. Granted she is not really treading new ground with her sound, she is a neo-neo-traditionalist.

I plan on checking it out soon. I really enjoyed the first one.

Somebody with her label or agency dropped off a box of them at the club and out of curiosity I took one home. Great record, I bought it on iTunes just before I went on a trip, I liked it so much.

A lot of hate here towards country. Of course there's a lot of hate lately in this country. Sad. There are crappy country songs and great ones. Genre's distort and diminish the individual song, just like they diminish individual human beings. Luckily, country is keeping guitar music popular, and giving some great guitar players a chance to make a living.

Good musicians and singers performing songs with lousy lyrics

I think this response to "haters" is a bit classier

and of course (but obviously after her transition to full pop):

I'm kinda into the overall evolution of Taylor's style:

'80s hair metal had great solos, too. Sadly, like today's country, they were surrounded by completely stupid songs.

For anyone interested in what some of modern country's hit songwriters have to say on this.

Currently the podcast is in the process of doing conversations with five of them for the CMAs. Started the series today with Thomas Rhett. In the past he also had a talk with Luke Laird.

Complete poop funneled nicely into a neat marketing package of pop meets, rap meets, with there crap fake country accents, wtf i guess we are all that dumb?

I do enjoy Chris Stapleton though... It seems they allow a few good ones in each year to save country musics ass from completely falling off!

Probably written by a focus group.
Every drum beat sounds like "Merry Jane's Last Dance/Dani California".
Songs are either about small town pride, partying with my bros, or sentimental about growing up in said small town.
    Always predictable and safe.

Well Willie should've and should. Brantley Gilbert is not country music, but does = pop country auto tuned rap crap.

BG's mid day half a set in 2011 was not anything to write home about, he got on Willies tour as a mid day hot ass weather day fest filler for all the early drunk frat fakes at a country fest...

He was in the middle of a lineup full of Bros/modern country guys. He had to go somewhere. Jamey Johnson was bigger at the time. Hauser, Lee Brice...yikes

I don't think you and Willie might see eye-to-eye on the subject. He seems pretty down with what tgp would consider some pretty ****** music, don't ya think?
