How do you layer distortion

I recenty recorded some riffs and was about to mix them. Anyone have a good method for layering distortion. Amps used are mesa recto(high gain), marshall jcm 2000 (orange channel, med gain), reeves 10w head w/ top boost

Yeah, use as little distortion as possible, play concisely, and build it up with multiple tracks of various flavors of amps.

The sum is far greater than the parts.
