When I record vocals or guitar I usually stand up. I use a wireless keyboard to start and stop recording in Logic Pro. But working with a keyboard, I think I could have a better arrangement. Having it directly in front of the monitor means I have to move the computer keyboard out of the way. Putting the keyboard to the side, I have to turn to begin playing. Not a big deal; however, when I am not playing, I move the keyboard away from the desk, and move it back again when I need it.

I was just wondering what others do? Do you have the keyboard in a permanent spot so you can record easily without having to move things around?

That's a great idea! I have that on my iPad and never used it. I could set it against the music sheet holder on the keyboard.

Since I use Ableton I have an APC-40 that acts like a recording desk.

This ^^^ and I also use a second USB keyboard and mouse plugged into my iMac with a 10 foot cable.

The app is good. But doesn't have the ability to do alone some functions the way you would with keyboard shortcuts (undo, cut, copy, paste, new track, etc).

Edited to add; Another trick is to use AirPlay to mirror your Mac display on the iPad.

You can... click on the drop down on the top left:

From there you can select "Key Commands", and then you have several pages of them:

And can even create your own custom sets:

    Hope that helps.

If I understand correctly you are talking about a keyboard as in an instrument (synth/piano) keyboard right? Mine is to my right on top of my rack of samplers. It just stays there.
