How do you set up your Blackverbs to really get them to "sing"?

I've not found settings that work for me in the forum, without it being way too loud.

I have a vintage 1965. There isn't a way to get them to the right level w/o an attenuator. I use a Weber mass, dial the amp to 6...drop the bass until it's not so flabby and done.
