how far back to mount B5 Bigsby?

I've read several different reports on how far to mount a B5 Bigsby on a tele. Some say as close to the bridge as possible so to increase the break angle. Other documentation just says 1/8" inch from the rear of the body. I've also read another option is to find the midpoint between the bridge and rear of the body!

Anyone have any suggestions on where to mount a B5 on a tele?

Thanks!

When I did it, I put it basically right up to the rear of the body. Are you keeping the original bridge or did you go for the B5 Tele kit. Here's the one I did with the kit. You can see the bigsby basically had to be right up to the end of the body.

I'm using a the B5 kit without the F logo, which cuts a bit of the length of the unit down.

That tele looks great by the way!

Did you just use a power drill to drill the pilot holes or a drill press?

I used a power drill and didn't have any issues. Measure twice, drill once. :D

I think it looks better if you leave about 1/4" or so between the back of the unit and the end of the body. It's less crowded looking and still provides enough break angle over the bridge.

thanks for the replies, so really it's personal preference based on aesthetics and/or space behind the bridge?

Hey tweedledeee or any others, do you know if a bigsby'd tele will fit in a tweed style case (road runner, fender, etc)?

Mine still fit in a Fender rectangular case as long as I turned the Bigsby arm almost all the way around backwards.
