Just love how she messes with the melody, but keeps it in the pocket. She sings it just as good as she did twenty years ago. And Buddy just sprinkles tasty all over it, such a great performance:

She is incredible IMO - I've seen her live numerous times since the early '90s and her voice hasn't aged a bit.

Her 'Fat City' record is fantastic.

Everyone on that stage just oozes tasty music.

I was a big fan of Shawn circa "Steady On" and the album or two after that...basically the ones John Levanthal was involved in creating. Whenever I think of her now I think of two stories:

    - My brother lived in Nashville for a time and was roomies with a cousin of ours who does PR for a bunch of big names up there. He told me he stumbled down to the kitchen one morning with a massive hangover, in his skivvies, to get some juice. Sitting at the breakfast table he saw our cousin, Shawn, and Mary Chapin Carpenter having coffee. What a way to wake up.

    - After Shawn had her big success with "Sunny Came Home" she was booked to play a solo acoustic set at a big family-oriented festival here. She was visibly pregnant, and she shocked this bible belt town by chain smoking through the performance. From what I heard the crowd turned against her and she ended her set early.

Isn't it funny what sticks in your mind?
