    Surprising loud.

    You figure a Vintage 30 is 100db @ 1w @ 1m....

    ....so a rough guess (I'm no pro at this stuff) is that a V30 would be around 97db @ .5w.......

    For reference, a loud conversation is ~60db if I remember correctly.

    vol=1/10 watt
    10watts is 1/2 as loud as 100watts

    This is roughly ofcourse & speaker chose does come into play.

    From inefficient (95-96 dB) to efficient (101-102 dB) is at least 4 times as loud depending on speakers so... 1/2 watt into an old 10" Jensen should be quiet enough to crank it pretty good while the kids sleep, into a JBL it'll be similar to the volume of a 50w amp into the Jensen!

    My Carr Mercury is perfectly usable at 1/2 watt, although I can turn it up enough that it would disturb, f'rex, my wife in the next room. I find it a good "quiet practice" wattage, but it can get loud enough to overwhelm a small MP3/CD player.

    At 1/10w, I can run the amp flat out, and talk over it at a normal level -- but so much is lost from the signal (and psychoacoustics comes into play) that it's almost pointless.

    .5 watts should be about half as loud as a 5 watt amp through the same speaker. A fender champ is about 5 watts and that amp dimed can hang with a restrained drummer (especially through a larger cab/speaker).

    yes you could BUT you would have no dynamics or feel PLUS noise..

    These 1/2 watts are "special" like I said "I wouldn't bring em if they weren't"...

    heres some choice Cannibal clips.. I do not think a SMOKEY mini amp is capable of that..

    How would 30+ years of practice & session work make an amp sound better?
