I landed on a “formula” many years ago.
Low gain drive (not transparent, never really heard about transparency until I came hear recently)
    Medium gain drive
2nd low gain drive at end of chain with volume cranked for solos, I kick this on with one of the other two drives engaged. Or I just play it on it’s own as a cleanish boost for clean tone.
    Usually this looks like
Tubescreamer low gain set somewhat bright
Rat medium gain set a bit darker
    Bluesbreaker for solo/clean boost.
I have over the years switched the order, but the above is my favourite setup.

I wasn't hunting for the ultimate Klone either.

I bought one Klone (CircuitRider FX made by a TGP member) for cheap (after resisting Klones for years) and I really liked it. It had a nice open sound and the breakup was nice although it thinned out the tone just a tiny bit.

Then I bought another TGP fave Klone assuming the sound would be quite similar, and did not like the EQ at all.

Rinse, lather, repeat ...not so good.

    Bondi Sick As
    Chellee Pony Boy
    RYRA
    Wampler Tumnus
    Rimrock Lil Mo
    BYOC Silver Pony

My CircuitRider Klone just sounds better to me ...period.

The only Klone that that I've tried that seems equal to, or better than, the CircuitRider is the Anasounds MKII which I also really like.

    ...

All Klones do not sound alike.

I use 2. Strymon Sunset stacked into a T-Rex MAB Overdrive. I would like to have my good old Big Muff there too, but that thing is way huge. Still that thing is irreplaceable, so I should probably get myself a Nano Muff? Oh, and there will soon be 3, just ordered a SviSound Overzoid oz1+, just for the fun of it! :D

Boss FZ-5, and that's it for me. Fuzz is the only thing I can't get with just my guitar, amp, and volume knob.

I really try to keep it at 2. Still figuring out the whole boost thing though.

My biggest issue is I haven't found my "sound". But once I do all I would need is 1 clean tone 1 lead tone and possibly a boost. I just have a hard time finding my lead sound, having 3 guitars doesn't help.

    Ostensibly 2:
Blackstone Mosfet, but that is a dual overdrive.
    AmpTwerker Tight Fuzz.

Also, I have overdrives in the H9, Sy300, and MS3, which I do use, tho usually in combination with other effects there.

Well LIST them for us then, effin' (I mean good) Sir!

I use three on one board: A "Neoplex" into a "Jan Ray" into a "Distortion + Script".

And 'two' on the other board: A Pettyjohn "Chime" and "Iron" fusioned into the "Pettydrive v2".

Well I got to try it today, it really is something different. Stacked gloriously into both the XTS and Honey Bee. Didn't get near enough time with it, hopefully I can put some hours in tomorrow. Hopefully I won't go further down the rabbithole.

    Usually 3.
Mooer Blues Crab: very low gain, basically my clean sound; also used for fattening up singlecoils in conjunction with a Xotic SP comp.
Rockett 45 Caliber: my go-to tone for rock/pop stuff. Usually set in between Malcolm and Angus. I goose it with the Mooer or SP comp to get more sustain and ride the vol knob for clean-up.
Bogner Uberschall: used for everything thats heavier than AC/DC. VH, Yngwie, Metallica etc. To send it into solo-land I goose it with the .45.

Sometimes for the shreddier stuff I'll add an YJM308 to the board to hit the Uberschall hard.
