    My sound guy says I have too many - but so many different colors - I like to vary my tone and sculp different shades. Wondering when too much is too much? Currently i have 5 pedals in my drive chain, I swear each is different and offers it's own range of tones:

    MJM Foxey Fuzz>Mosferatu>Sd1/808/Silver>KeeleyRAT>Timmy

    SO how bout you guys? What ya packing? Do i use too many dirt boxes?

    I think dirt boxes are IT.. Can you really have too many colors? Of course you have to keep the system working..

    Let's see:
    COT->Hot Cake->Hot Cake>SCOD>SCP at the moment..

    Gonna be:
    COT->Timmy->Hot Cake->Eternity->EGDM->BBB->SCP

    So that's seven then.. Maybe I'll get rid one of those but six at least.

    I think it's too many, but what does that matter if it works for you?

    Lately I've been struggling to pick which pedals will make it to a board because everything sounds so great these days. I am really starting to see the benefit of COT50 > Time Machine Boost > TCJ Gristle King. That would be 3 for me, in addition to whatever the amp's giving me. More than I ever thought I'd use, but it sounds so good...

    well, I just got the Mosferatu, and I'm loving it, it's so small it squeezed right on my board w/o rearranging. It's so hard to tell if a pedal is a keeper until you've gigged it ya know? so maybe it'll kick off my SD1/808 or something. It would be nice to downsize a little....but nothing does what the Rat does, or the Fuzz, or the Timmy - the SD1 and mosferatu cover similar ground w/ the mosferatu having a wider range of tone....

    They def don't get in the way of my playing, as I tend to forget about it when I step out on stage anyhow....

    Seven, counting my treble booster:

    Blackbox Cobalt (OD/Preamp)
    Plosive Dual Treble Booster
    Frantone The Sweet (Fuzz)
    HBE UFO (Octave Fuzz)
    Tone Factor HellBaby (OD)
    Tone Factor HellBilly (Boost/OD/Fuzz)
    HBE Big D (Distortion)

    After my next pedalboard rebuild, I'll add a HBE Germacide (multi-frequency booster) too.

    There is some crossover of tones among them, but I use them all for different things. They stack differently with my other stuff too, like my JangleBox compressor and Fulltone Clyde wah.

    TC Jauernig DGTM, which is awesome, and a tonebone hot british. And if a super chile picoso counts, then one (soon to be 2!) of those as well :)

    Course, those are the ones that are just on my board. Off my board, I've got all this crap that I don't even know why i buy it with money I don't have

    Just 2 right now.

    A Divided By 13 Dyna-Ranger feeding into a Fat Boost. Between these two I get everything I need.

    Used to have a SunFace but ended up not using it very much.

    3 now (3.5 if I pull out the pot on my Keeley Katana Boost)

    Barber DD > Keeley TS9 Flexi 4x2 > Keeley DS-1 > Keeley Katana

    Soon to be 2 - Removing the DS-1 because it's redundant to my amp Channel 2 which sounds even better (Mesa F30) Great pedal, but redundant for me.

    Your sound guy is probably just used to players using their amps for a majority of their sound. I would agree that these dirt boxes have their own flavor and it's so hard to just choose even two! That said, I have...

    Keeley TS9>OCD>Eternity>Fat Boost

    Coming soon within a month or so...Tim, Timmy, Klon

    Klon,Barber DDSS,Baber LTD,Keeley Fuzz Head,Reezafratzitz,MJM Blues Devil(silvermod),Maxon SD-9(silvermod),RCboost,custom MJM London FuzzII,Diaz Squareface,Retroman Wolftone Mach.,I need a meeting. They are grouped as boosts, ODs and distortions thru a 3 or 4 loop looper pedal with the klon first so I can use it's buffer when needed. Does that sound SAD?????????????!!!!!!!

    3 for now.

    Tim -> Keeley mod Sparkle Drive -> FD2

    plus the lead channel of my amp.

    I'm looking for a good thick sounding distortion to go with my EL84's...too many options, so little time.
