How many of you bother putting a custom decal on your builds?

I've built a few partcaster guitars and having a guitar headstock with no decal always seems wrong to me. A build doesn't look complete without a decal IMO.

So are you guys putting on custom made decals on your guitars? If so I would love to see some of them.

It seems there are quite a few different ways to do this. I'm thinking on one for my next tele build as we speak.

I don't know...I'm perfectly fine with a nice clean headstock if the wood is nice enough to where I don't want to cover any of it up. A lot of the decals people use tend to look really silly/cheesy to me.

Case in point being one of my custom strats...this would in my opinion look a lot worse with some kind of "FrankenCaster" like decal covering up all that nice birdseye maple.

I do. My last name has 6 letters in it, as do most of the big guitar brands. So, if I use a script like Fender, but use my name, most people don't even notice standing RIGHT BESIDE the guitar.

It’s never been a priority to me. I have 2 guitars with my middle name, which was also my Dad’s given name, Starr. A few others are blank, same for amps I’ve built. On my Epi Sheraton’s, which don’t have a 17th fret inlay, I had inlay stickers made, also with my name on them, but that was because I kept missing the fret.

I guess I just want to make music more than I want to make custom stickers.

Thought about it twice, and decided nothing was better than anything I could come up with.

Never have, and probably never will. I think it looks better with no decal.

I've made four, I have put one decal and one custom truss rod cover. The other two have interesting grain patterns, look good without decal. I usually don't mind blank headstocks, exception is a maple CBS, it's too big and looks empty. On the other hand I had a RW CBS neck and looked OK. Three of them have also custom made neck plates. I would prefer no neck plate at all but since the bodies were finished and they had mounting holes I went with that.

My late wife gave me this 70s Japanese V 12 years ago, added her name after she passed away in November.

I like not having a decal on the headstock. When people ask me what brand it is I just tell them it is not any brand, it's the only one.

I like plain wood on my headstocks but not required.

I think it finishes off a personal build proper and is worth the extra effort.

Yeah, a headstock with no decal makes the guitar look unfinished in my opinion.

I too hate a blank headstock. I put pinup girls on my mine.

I'm sorry for your loss brother. Hang in there.

    That's a beautiful guitar.

I agree that a decal really finishes it off.

I don't do anything too special. Just an inkjet decal.

    A Tele with contoured body...

It's more subtle on my latest with roasted and Tru-Oiled neck...

Thanks! It was attached to the rest of the guitar when I bought it :). One of my best scores ever, grabbed it for an insane price and quickly sold every other strat I owned. Originally had Duncan YJMs which I didn't really like, now it's rocking Bareknuckle Sinners.
