How much do you think it would cost to repair this? Binding is completely missing under three frets.

I say $75. Patch in binding & laquer clear coat over the repair area.
Do you still have the missing binding?

That's not bad at all. Looks horrible. It's not my guitar. It's a guitar that I'd like to own that's on Ebay. Price is high, and that looked like a pretty icky thing to see on a $2k+ guitar.

In the picture, it appears that it may have a bulge in the neck, but hard to tell with that pic.

I attribute that to poor camera skills. If you leave a camera on wide angle and take a pic close up, it will distort like that. Good observation though and worth looking into.

Yeah, more than likely a slight fisheye distortion.

Would you pay $2200 for a guitar that needed this repair? It's a 1976 Starfire VI which is pretty rare, and it's *exactly* what I want except for the problem.

    Ugh. How about this:

Looks to me like the binding on the entire neck needs to be redone.

I'd say look for another or have the seller get it professionally repaired then sell it at his asking price. Or, have them knock off $300 off the price because you'll more than likely end up getting the whole neck re-bound.

Yeah I'm moving on. Beautiful guitar, but I'm not into buying broken stuff unless it's a real steal.

If it's a really nice guitar, I wouldn't pass it up just for needing some binding. Hell, half the Gretsches out there have binding on death's door. Basically, the stuff is just plastic. Not a biggie in the scheme of things. The value of the repair should be duducted from the price of the guitar though.

To be fair, it probably is already, but for over $2k, and not being able to play it first, I have to wonder what else is wrong. I may make him an offer and see what happens, but having been burned by buying guitars online, I'm wary of stuff.

the first picture the guitar is setting on a seat cushion, which makes the neck look distorted, as everyone has said the binging is just plastic, so easy to replace if the guitar is one that you want get it.

I have high-res pics of the entire guitar. The guy is being very forthcoming with pics and info I must say.
