How to mute the monitors?

I have a Boss BR1180 with two powered monitors connected in the back via RCA jacks (Left and Right). As far as I know, there is no way to mute the monitors. So the sound from the microphone, for example, is coming out of the monitors all the time-- while I'm recording and while I'm playing back. Is there something I can buy to place in between the monitors and the Boss unit to mute? Something not overkill? Thanks!

I use a PreSonus HP4 Headphone Amp that has routing for the monitors. It includes a break-mute for the monitors. If you don't already have a headphone amp and consider the purchase, it's a decent buy and a useful tool at $100.

Thank you mccreadyisgod. I will check it out. I don't have a headphone preamp yet, so that sounds like a good investment, something I could still use when I "graduate" to a better recording system.

I'm also wondering, why not just turn down the master faders to mute the monitors.
