Using the line input on my computer I get nasty microprocessor whine. This is unacceptable for distributed recordings. Whether the recording be from my DAT deck, 1/8" tape deck or 1/4" tape deck, its something without a USB that needs to be put on CD for wider distribution.

How do I transfer the recordings sans-USB for CD? I don't want to buy a seperate CD recording deck...

If your using the line in on a stock computer soundcard there WILL be lots of noise. No way around it. You'll have to purchase a dedicated audio interface, either USB or firewire... or outsource the transfer work.
