How to use modeler ONLY as preamp?

I'm aware of the 4 cable method, but that's assuming I also want to be able to use the amp's preamp. What if I want to just run something like the HD500 directly into the power amp and use the models as the preamp (I don't need to be able to switch over the amp's preamp)?

Would that be:

Guitar -> modeler -> AMP's fx RETURN input...

...which would then send the signal into the power amp and out to the speaker cabinet, skipping the amp's preamp. Is that right?

The 4CM allows you to use EITHER the amps preamp OR the modeller's preamps. This can be done patch by patch.

Yeah, I know, buy I don't want to. I just want to run it directly into the power amp and bypass amp's the preamp altogether. Just wanting to make the cable stuff as simple as possible.
Sorry... when I read your post the first time, I misunderstood what you were after. burningyen is right (yep).

I normally don't use my GT-10 with my Carvin, but when I do I use the 4CM because it gives me full flexibility in effects routing and use of the Carvin's preamp (which is good). When I use my JC-120, I use the returns in the back (what you're proposing) because I don't need to use the onboard preamp.

Peace,
