Looking for a warm pick up for the neck position on a Tele. I want something that'll sound really warm and ambient clean. any recommendations?

If you are willing to change the cavity, the Seymour Duncan P-90 Stack is a great option. Install a push/pull pt on your guitar to take advantage of the 4 wiring harness on the pickup and get more tonal options. It's also hum canceling.

I put a Seymour Duncan 59 in my American special tele and I think that it sounds great. It is warm, bluesy and clear and sounds great in my guitar. I play mostly blues, jazz, rock type music, but I like to jam on hard rock/metal stuff too. This guitar pickup sounds great (too me anyway) no matter what type of music you play.

I just bought a Fender '52 Heavy Relic that comes with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity in the neck. Very well balanced with the '51 Nocaster in the bridge... Plenty of growl too though.
You could also look at a humbucker sized P90 such as the Bareknuckle Mississippi Queen. Many people swear by it!

um. mine's got a seth lover in mine and that sounds like an apt description, warm and ambient. I want to change it out with something that jangles and snarls a bit more though.

I use a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary in mine. I've had the El Rayo in a few guitars and while I think it's a great pickup I definitely wouldn't describe it as "really warm". In fact, it's one of the brightest humbuckers I've ever owned.

for full size humbucker, lollar low wind imperial and seymour duncan antiquity. you can't go wrong with this two pickup.

SD Antiquity or Jazz would be two I'd look at given your description of what you want. I'm not sure I get the P90 recommendations, I love P90s in Tele neck position but I certainly don't associate P90s with "really warm and ambient clean". YMMV...

I have put a bunch of different humbuckers in telecasters in the neck position and find that they often end up sounding dark and muffled rather than warm, even with 500k pots. I tired classic 57's, WCR Legends, Antiquities, maybe a few others, and had a tele with a mini-bucker that I gigged for years. However, I would say the best sounding big, warm pup for the neck in a tele, is the Fralin p92. Round, and big sounding, but still has just enough sparkle, and really warm if you roll of the tone a bit. No noise either.

YMMV

Is the American Special routed for an HB in the neck or did you have to mod the guitar to get the HB to fit ?
