I want to try some out in a SG. Are any brands better than others?
TV Jones,TV Jones,TV Jones
I have a Power Tron in the neck of a Koll J.r Glide and it is a great rock n roll pickup. I like it for clean sounds too. With a Fender Reverb you like it long time.
Soap bar only no Dog Ear but they make an adapter thing to work with their regular english mount Filtertron
I'm not stalking you...really
so, do they fit in a humbucker cavity?
Duncan Phat Cats into a PRS McCarty--sucked big time
BG claims his are as close as you're gonna get.
I was NOT fond of the Rio Grande Bastard.
I suspect Vintage Vibe would have a good one. The humbucker size Charlie Christian is pretty dang awesome.
Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen.
Phat Cats are good sounding pickups, but they have their own sound...to me, more top and bottom and slightly more gain...and slightly clangy sounding.
I had some in a 335 and it was a lousy match.
I totally flipped what you asked for! Um no.
Harmonic designs z90 are p90s in a humbucker mount. They do sound just like a great vintage p90. I am amazed by them.
Change the stock magnet from the Phat Cat from a A5 to A2 and listen how much that PRS will wake up.
Warm crunchy vintage tones without the annoying top end.
The Phat Cat sounds GREAT balanced with a humbucker, though. If you're going to do one humbucker and one P90 it's a good choice. I had one in my Heritage when I first got it and it sounded AMAZING! I swapped it for a humbucker because I am a humbucker guy.
These are great sounding pickups which sound phenominal clean and with crunch...they also sizzle with higher gain which if you like that sort of thing is great...
Not sure how P-90ish they are though...
Most aftermarket P-90s sound way different than the set of real 52s...56s and 57s that my bud brought by...
To my ears the aftermarket P-90s that I tried are all way more aggessive and sizzly with a distinct upper mid-bite than the the three vintage sets I heard which are all very smooth and sweet sounding on the top end...
My bg h90 slays me everytime I plug in.
Just find the humbucker you like and modify the base plate to fit in the P90 route without doing anything more than two super tiny holes in the bottom of the P90 route for the modified humbucker base plate to mount with. Here's a couple photos of my 1971/58 reissue with a Duncan JB in the bridge position.
if you want a cheaper option just to try out, the GFS Dream 90 and Mean 90 pickups are great, and only about $35 a piece
i think he's looking for a P90 the size of a humbucker, not a humbucker the size of a P90...
I luvs my mean 90's. they sound like a P90 with, um, more testicular fortitude.
