Humbuckers that have the articulation of a single coil?

This pretty much rules out PAF type humbuckers.

I had a Tele Deluxe with Wide Range Humbucker's a while back and the most amazing part about them was how much more articulate they were than PAF type humbuckers, absolutely on par with a single coils. The problem was, I just didn't like the character of the WRHB's. I love the sound of PAF types, but the articulation just isn't quite there.

Are there any humbuckers out there, preferably in traditional PAF size, appearance, and flavor, that have more articulation than a PAF type? I've heard the Barden's, Bill Lawrence, and Railhammer's are great, I just don't enjoy the appearance and also the fact that they're all hotter than I prefer and none of them do custom winds. I've tried TV Jones, don't like them. I like Mini-hums, but I've already got that taken care of.

How about something similar to the Duncan Stag Mag, but with less output. The Manlius Studbucker sounds like it fits the bill. Any comment? Any other thoughts?

Except for the low output part, you might try the Dimarzio Bluesbucker. Dimarzio also has the Eric Johnson pickup you might consider. The other thoughts off the top of my head are the Fralin Unbucker (and maybe have him unbalance it even more), or using a PAF type with four conductors and wire it in parallel.

The output problem can be reduced at the amp or through a buffer with sub-unity gain.
The appearance can be hidden under a strip of black electrical tape..really?..appearance??
Try a conversion plate to mount a noiseless single coil if you really want sc sound.

Les Paul's look funny with rail pickups and I'd rather not make it look completely ghetto with electrical tape, I'm not Dimebag Darryl and I don't play metal as my username may suggest. I'm going for PAF type sound, just with more articulation.

I know you said no rails, but the Wilde L90 really does what you're asking.

There are a few slightly more traditional models from them (610?), but I don't know how they sound.

Another option might be to run in parallel?

    Good luck with your quest!

I've got a great and highly revered under wound PAF type Humbucker set in my LP and I can tell you that this in not true.

I have a set of Shepwound handwound Tribute PAFs in my '58 Les Paul reissue and they are superb. The most "single-coil-like" humbuckers I ever heard.
