Somebody posted about a Peavey Bandit the other day.

I want one of the older ones just like this:

An 80s model eh?

I used to have a Stereo Chorus 212 that had the most 3 dimensional sound I've ever heard come out of an amp. After hearing that it was hard to get used to mono amps again. If it would have been a tube amp I probably never would have sold it...;)

Yes!! I used to have a Peavey Classic Chorus 212 and with the chorus engaged it did have a huge 3D sound!

I agree up to a point. TGP really helped me figure out what was out there and what fufilled my needs, but -dare I say!- after a year on here I feel set...
I've got a couple of fantastic guitars, a couple amps that do what I want... I now use TGP for the information/entertainment value rather than for sourcing equipment.

That being said. I guess I'm only one 'perfect' FS posting away from something new!:rotflmao

Yeah, I agree with Ruraltom; a year on here cleared up my gear issues. My playing is priority #1 again...

By the way, i had access to and played thru bandits from the mid 80's on up, and that one in the pic above sounds better than any of them. Look for the one like the pic with the blue stripes on the face. I swear the difference is considerable. I hated them all except that particular model. Not sure what years they were produced like that tho.

That said, like i have found with most SS amps, in a live situation it sucked. mostly if not all because the dynamics are very different than a tube amp, but the sound itself was nice.

LOL that this has become a Peavey Bandit thread. But on the subject of Peavey Bandits . . . I'm old enough to remember these from when they were new and I always thought they were so cheap and ugly looking (the covering in particular) but they have aged more gracefully than I thought - they have a kind of hip retro thing now to my eye. They are still ugly, though. If memory serves, if you weren't looking at them, they were fairly compotent amps.

Hey Trevor, if you're still looking for an Ethos, let me know.

But yeah, I know what you're talking about. I used to be OK with my BF Fenders. Learning more about my amps got me in the door here. Next thing I know I need something Marshally. Oh yeah, definitely need to cover my Dumble tones. I check out the Trainwreck threads - sweet! I need to check that out.

Pedals were the gateway drug. Cheap, easy to ship, interchangable, flippable, easy to store, lots of flavors. Next thing I know, I'm loving the amp tones that my pedals emulate.

Now I'm into the hard stuff, amps. And I'm trying so hard not to cross the line into guitars...

People posting about how great something is usually have that item for sale two days later in the Emporium.

OK to do here but illegal if you're buying & selling stocks.

We all drank the Koolaid! And some continue to drink it... :)
It's funny how a handful of stranger's opinions on gear can make you subject to wanting what they have. I tend to go through periods of boredom and change out gear here and there, but rarely fall into the snares of "hype" anymore. Ah, who cares, if you have the money and you're not keeping food off the table, then go for it! Nothing wrong with owning nice gear.

I'm the same way. I like to think I've exercised remarkable restraint in instrument acquisition (20 years playing; only ten guitars, one bass, and three amps in my possession), but I'm afflicted with terrible gear desires all the time, especially when I see someone playing a cool axe or I read about one. Especially high-end superstrats -- I've lusted after Andersons and their ilk ever since I saw Dr Know (Bad Brains) with one, but always managed to resist. My will is getting weaker by the day.

True.....I have posted NAD's and NGD's absolutely praising said items only to have them for sale in 2-3 days because they are somehow missing "something". This is actually just a way to justify to myself that the search must continue. I fully admit that it's "the search" that motivates me, not better gear!!!

(Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery):p

Another 212 user here. In 1989 I believe it was.
Bandmate had the bandit like the above.
