One of my favorite misfits songs "Where Eagles Dare" was just on a mainstream commercial for Sailor Jerrys rum. I love the rum and the song. Not pissed at the use in any way. It says lets test your threshold of pain lets see how long youll last. Fits perfect for the add. But .... Misfits on national tv. I am very proud of glen or whomever got it done but..... It all is.?????? Nah lets just have fun.

Can't blame artists these days...... not many are selling any meaningful amounts of music since it can be had for free so easily.......they got a make a living somehow

This sort of music placement also gives you a ballpark of the age of those selecting the music, and who they think the target demo is.

Misfits are cool. Walk Among Us was on heavy rotation in my youth. 20 Eyes is a great song!

Glenn D. lost a little in my eyes when that fat dude decked him in that infamous backstage Youtube vid.

He tries to be all bad ass, but he's just like all of us. Meaning: He gets his ass kicked every now and then.

An interesting discussion on late career marketing of songs... I agree with Rollins take on it also:

(Careful at work though, there's some language)

What was once rebellious decades ago is now "oldies" music.
I think the problem comes when we old people don't realize it has been that long.

Judas Priest is my favorite band but I'm not about to go buy a minivan after they played "The Hellion" in an ad. Who cares? Pay 'em.

I am not a fn but have mixed feelings about music I love being used to sell widgets. There are two messages to me you can take from that .....everything can be bought or the counter culture was not crushed, our tastes matter.....truth is a bit of both I figure.

I do get how you feel Zep is going to break bread with the POTUS and Jeff Beck played the white house, Never thought that could happen you came over to our side. old dick nixon would be freaking

I'm happy for 'em.

For whatever it's worth- it was around 1992, I was outside a Bad Religion show- shooting the **** with Greg Hetson and some 14 year old came up spouting all this "sell out" **** because of the $15 show price. BTW, the show was Bad Religion and the Mighty Mighty BossTones.

As usual, I defer to Rollins on this one.

Just as a note though it'd be Jerry Only who got the song on a commercial or whoever manages the Misfits these days. Danzig hasn't had anything to do with them for decades now which is probably best for everybody. He's too busy hunting down French onion soup and picking up bricks these days.

Rollins is dead on.

I think I recall Iggy saying the same when Search and Destroy was used by Nike a few years back. He said, what's the diff.? Get paid and make money when you make the record (which they didn't) or make some money now? No difference.

Yeah. I agree with Rollins.

I think what throws me most is the language aspect. Kinda out there to hear that song on TV.

Biggest bonus is I went and cranked up "Walk Among Us" for a while yesterday.:beer

I don't know if Danzig still owns the rights to the Misfits original recordings, but I'm pretty sure that Glen gets a cut of all things Misfits in exchange for letting Jerry use the name & images.

I'm pretty sure Glenn still owns all of the rights to the back catalog.
If I remember correctly, the terms of the legal settlement require Only give Glenn a hefty portion of the merchandise profits for the right to record and perform as the Misfits.
