I am officially Suhr shopping ....

I have begun liquidating unused gear locally, officially moving all my belongings to Richmond VA, and ready to start shopping.

BUT .... I have questions .... lol ....

Ive played a couple Suhrs, and although they are FANTASTIC guitars, they just arent pushing me to make the plunge ... '
SOOOOO .... I am thinking I will probably need to order something to get the asthetics of what I am looking for ...

Do I go to a local dealer to order? Do I order direct from Suhr? Pro's and Cons of going either way? What is the lead time on an order?

From what Ive seen of the spec sheets, it appears most people are going thru a dealer to get them ... I am new to purchasing
THIS level of guitar and looking for some insight on how to go about the process.

Just turning to you guys to see if there are any answers before contacting Suhr themselves, as I am sure they get a
load of emails a day.

Thanks in advance guys!

Kevin :D

I have waited 20 years to get to the day that I am saying that I am officially Suhr shopping ..... what a feeling .... Im 18 all over again ... lol

I went through a Noel @ Tone Merchants for my Standard and had a good experience. I don't think you can go direct through Suhr, but I could be wrong about that. Good luck with your order!

I also believe that you must go through a dealer. Eddie Berman at Indoorstorm is a great guy and very knowledgeable about Suhr products.

+1 for Eddie Berman - class act if ever there was one. He's a good guy. The guys at Indoor Storm will take care of you. Eddie's a guitar player; he's very knowledgeable. He's a good person to speak with about Suhr guitars.

Go down to Alpha Music in VA Beach and play a few. If they don't have the one you want, then they will help you order one. Ask for Micah or Doug and tell'em Brent sent you.

Thanks Guys!

I knew I could get some good feedback from y'all. Ill give these guys calls and begin to narrow down which one
I feel the most comfortable with to make this happen.

GuitarBrent - I see your from Richmond .... any other stores you'd reccomend in the area for sundries,
or do you use the "Oh damn, I need strings" excuse to go to the beach? LOL ...

Thank you all ...

Any more suggestions ... chime in ... :)

+1 on Eddie Berman at Indoor Storm. I've known Eddie for years and he's a great guy as well as an awesome player.

You also might want to check out Rocket Music in Blacksburg, VA. They're about a 3 hour drive from you. Greg and Danny are great guys and they happen to be Suhr's best selling dealer. Check their website for a listing of their Suhr's in stock.

Best of luck with your search...

Richmond Music Center is on the southwest side of town and has Suhr and some other boutique brands. Not sure if they're a dealer (don't see them listed on Suhr's website), but they definitely have a few in the store. It's a pretty long drive for me, but I dropped by a few months ago when I wanted to check out some Dr. Zs. Their prices are a little bit higher on the day-to-day stuff and it can be hard to get someone to help you; there's usually only a few people on the floor and you can't just grab a guitar off the wall and start playing.

Sam Ash and Guitar Center are "meh". I'll usually buy strings and picks there, but that's about it.

Guitar Works in Carytown is small, but okay. I've bought a few things there and had some service work done with no problems. I'll go there occasionally because it's almost within walking distance for me.

Alpha is my favorite music store bar none. I usually get my strings from them as well. I've got in-laws at the beach, so I'm down there 2 weekends a month anyway. In the Richmond area, there are no stores anywhere near the level of Alpha. Those guys know their products and are total gear nuts like a lot of guys on TGP. They also seem to always have fantastic Suhrs at all times, as they stock the most sought after features. Plus if you buy at Alpha, their in store tech, Walter, will set up your guitar, and will for life. Walter is awesome. This feature alone is worth the trip and worth purchasing at Alpha. I bought my Suhr Swamp Ash Classic with V54s through them, amongst many, many other guitars, amps, pedals, and recording gear over the last 15 years.

Cant beat Rik's Music and Sound in Knoxville, TN. Best guys on earth!

As a GC employee, i would obviously get anything that we deal through my store, but if its boutique, i only deal with Rik if he is a dealer of that product.

GuitarBrent - Thank You ... I will definately check them out .... Do they normally have more in stock than they have listed on their website?

7String Thing - Man - what you said there says ALOT about Rik's

Thanks to everyone for their input. I will be checking each and every one of these dealers out ....

Any more reccomendations are welcome!

They keep their website pretty current, so they may have sold a few during the holiday season. They move stuff pretty quickly at Alpha.
