I don't get Grateful Dead. Really.

Alright. I tried to like them since the '70's but the band just never clicked with me. I saw them in concert too, and yeah they were good I guess but just not my cup of tea. I'm a fan of, you know, the usual suspects: Clapton, Hendrix, Beck, Santana, R Gallagher, Page and so on but I never liked - or crazy about - Jerry's playing..... as much. Yeah, he's a great player and I get that but I never tried to cop his sound or tone. In fact, I don't know any of their songs - sans "trucking" and perhaps one more song maybe? - and to this day I'm perplexed/astonished about their huge popularity :huh

So, hey, be brave and come out of the closet and let me know if you're just as UnGrateful as I am. I can't be the only one out there, eh? ;) My flame suit is ON!! :anon:hide

I like them, just not that much.

Just like I don't like The Rolling Stones just a little bit.

    So, yeah.

It wasn't about Jerry - I'm not a fan either, but if it's on I go with the flow. I don't really like "jam bands" as a whole, but I did go see Wide Spread Panic at the Palace in Albany because Jimmy Herring was playing with them . . . and they were free tickets - 8th row center. If not for Herring I wouldn't have wasted gas to and fro.

My level of hatred for them borders on irrational. I mean a raging, blood lust hatred. The music, the culture, the lifestyle....everything. I fail to see how anyone can be into it in any way shape or form.

That being said I'm totally cool with folks digging them. Just not my thing. It's easy - I just avoid listening. Garcia said it best with his black licorice analogy.

They have many great songs and their fans made their shows alot of fun.

    Like a freak show circus.
If you're not into partying, dancing and their music you won't like it.

    Simple as that.

Don't like them at all, and don't like Pink Floyd either!

I saw them live once, and walked out.
It isn't the religious experience their fans claim it is.

I haven't been able to get into them even though I have tried many times. Wished I did. Everyone seems to have a great time and it's a really cool vibe. Kinda like looking into a window where there is a party going on and you will never be able to join in the fun.
