Too bad UPS decided to have some fun with it before it got to me.

crack1.jpg

I can't even begin to imagine the abuse this amp must have gone through getting to me. That joint looks super solid with dowels and nails, I don't know how that came apart.

I've got a claim open with UPS. Anyone have experience filing a claim with UPS and what usually happens on something like this?

Btw, JB (the guy I bought the amp from) has been very good about keeping in touch with me and helping me get this resolved.

On another note, even after the abuse the amp appears to have taken it does power up and play :). Clean sounds pretty good. Didn't get to play too much with the gain side, but so far sounds good. I can't really tell if the amp is playing the way it's supposed to because I hear stuff rattling around in the chassis.

Hopefully this will work itself out.

The rattle is probably the locater pins from the power tubes, nothing to worry about unless you remove the tubes you wont know which way is correct. I'll bet it is just the box and the power tubes but they should pay for a full inspection, Was it in the double wall box?

Hi! I just called and spoke to Pete about this amp. The amp was shipped in the factory box. I have a claim open with UPS, and they said someone will call monday to schedule an inspection.

The tubes all look okay, but they were half way out of the sockets when I got it. Luckily those spring things kept them on tight.

I guess we'll see what happens on monday.

I had UPS do a similar number on a Fender Twin. UPS sent two claims adjusters to inspect the damage, and they cut a check to me for a total loss claim on the spot. They even let me keep the salvage. It may have helped that I told them that, when I plugged in the amp, it began to spit and hiss at me. When I offered to show them, they declined and cut the check.

Is Fuchs gonna help you out?

UPS sucks like a Crack Whore with the Navy in town. I recieved an amp last week via UPS that also was ****ed up. The owner was completely stand up and took it back.

I haven't sent anything via UPS in over 4 yrs. Only www.fedex.com

David,

That sucks bad. This is the reason I am staying away from buying used anymore. Not that it can't happen when new but then you have the mfg or retailer to help. The last two used amps I bought both had to be sent to the factory for a repair to make them playable. Both were packed well. The orange rockerverb had verb only when amp was upside down. The VHT Pitbull 45 which came in a roadcase only played for a few seconds before crapping out repeatedly. The beating this stuff takes CAN be severe. I have had great luck generally but my last two experiences cost me hundreds of dollars and the aggravation makes me gun shy. Seeing your amp makes me sick. The conveyer belt drops at UPS are probably the worst.

I am sorry for you. This is bad news. Feel free to bring it over if you want me to check it out. I know what it is supposed to sound like. BTW Did you sell the TR? That was an incredible price.

Thanks for the words Steve, I was so bummed out when I saw that crack. I feel good right now though cause I know the seller isn't going to shaft me, and Suhr has been very responsive to my questions. I'm sure it will all work out. As for buying stuff new, I'm with you on that, in fact almost all of the amps I have ever bought were new :). Just this once I saw a deal I couldn't pass up, figures.

Just need to wait for the UPS inspector. The only thing that worries me is that the box doesn't have any obvious signs of crushing, but there are some deep gashes on the sides of the box that the seller says was not there when he shipped. Someone also put clear tape over the gashes so.. Who knows.

As for the TR, you know what, I don't think I'm going to sell it. It just has a really sweet quality to it that I like, and I know I will probably kick myself if I let it go. I think it does need some work though and would like to take it to TR at some point to have them go through it.

This is a Suhr amp and they were very helpful. Especially seeing that this amp was probably sold twice. I don't really expect too much from them, not really their problem. I'm sure things will work.

Smart on keeping that TR. At that price if I would have had the $$ I would have bought it for a backup. Please let me know if you do ever decide to sell it. I will probably buy it if it appears again at that price.

Sure, I'll let you know.

On another note, have tried a 4x12 with greenbacks with the TR or the CAE? Do you prefer V30s with either amps?

I tried John Suhrs 4X12 with GBs and it killed. I also love the Bogner 2X12 with V30s and the OD100.

I have a 4X12 with a mix of speakers V30s and G12H but want to get the new Heritage speakers in it.

I also have a Custom Audio 2X12 with an Eminence Governor and need to find a companion for it .

Let me know how the heritage sounds for you. I'm thinking of getting that mojotone 4x12 with greenbacks or heritage speakers. Maybe possibly even scumbacks :).

I sold glogulus the OD-100 and have to say I still feel sick. This was my first damaged package with UPS. I feel so bad about this. It's such a nice amp and for UPS to destroy it just burns my ass. I'll be in touch David. Also, I see you've talked to John Suhr about it allready. Let me know what he has to say.

JB,

I know the feeling. I recently sold a great Orange Rockerverb 50 and after spending about $150 to get it fixed by the authorized Orange tech, I sold it and the guy who got it said the reverb was DOA. I hate it. I packed the hell out of it but still it got ****ed up. This stuff is beyond our control and I guess there is not a viable solution.

I'm going to everything I can as far as them paying for it. Like you said, I paid for insurance. Thanks for ringing in too John. It's nice to know that you know what's going on. On a side note, I ended up buying an '83 JCM that you modded last August.:D

Thanks JB, I'll let you know when I get an inspector out here.

John, thanks for the input, and hopefully it will all work out.

Ya, I'll def try to get those guys to pay for shipping and repairs. And, yes fedex would be much better on the return trip.
