I have a les paul std premium plus that sounded great unplugged

but sounded like poo plugged in.

it came to me with alnico 2 pro which i hated.

i was able to score a old set of TOM HOLMES 450/455 set with nickel covers.

i had a old RS guitarworks pot set and switched em out.

One strum clean into my old superlead and i was floored.

big, fat , juicy, smooth, with just enough bite.

cranked it up, and I swear to god, that even as a lower output pickup, it had plenty of drive and the notes were just popping out, the guitar even felt much better to play.

    Man,

I didnt think that a pickup change would do that.

and this comes from a guy who has swapped out a bunch of boutique pickups.

these tom holmes pickups are the real deal.

    peace

Matching the right pickups to a guitar is almost magic in the difference it can make. Some people buy pickups at random hoping something will work. They don't take what they like about the unplugged tone and find a set that will amplify those characteristics. Sounds like you managed to nail it. :D

    I really did get lucky.

I stumbled across the pick ups for dirt cheap.

There was no way I was going to fork out 5 or 6 hundred bones on pickups.

    No planning.

Just thought that I would try em.

Also had wcr godwoods. Fillmore bare knuckles and harmonic designs.

    The 455 is the bomb

That's great for you. I've never had any pickups create such a revelation for me.
