Hey, language Nazis, what's up with this recent little gem of popular expression? It's been around a while but it seems to be gaining traction. The first time someone said "I know, right?" to me I thought, "Right about what?" I got that the person was agreeing with what I'd just said. But what's that interrogative "right" about? It sounds pretty strange. Are you questioning whether you really mean what you just said? Asking to be affirmed in your affirmation? Asking if the other person understands, like the obnoxious folks who can't say anything without adding "Know what I'm saying?" to it? Or are you just asking to be congratulated on agreeing? Sure, this is trivial stuff, but I figured that the language and grammar Nazis who hang out here might have some insights.
