    Was there a transition period between 50's and 60's telecasters where there were 50's appointments (5 screws pickguard, neck dimensions) and 60's appointments (alder body, rosewood freatboard) on a same guitar?

    Thanks,

    Jaya

    The simple answer is Yes, there was. There are some '59 Teles that have a 5 screw pickguard and a slab rosewood neck.

    Heres a pic of a '59 Tele, rosewood neck:

    And here's a '60 Tele, Maple neck, 8 screw pickguard

    The exact 'moment' of transition doesn't seem to exist. Most '59 Teles, but not ALL, have a maple neck, not rosewood. Most '60's Teles, but not all, have rosewood and 8 screws in the pickguard.

    Pretty tough though to find one that has "appointments" from both periods. Guess that's one reason they cost so 'freakin much ...

    Hope this helps, Dana O.

    The first Telecaster and Esquire Customs in 1959 had 5 screw, 3 ply guards and a Walnut Plug on the headstock of a Rosewood fingerboard.
    Things were not often a set change.
    Many Esquires had Spaghetti decals into 1967.
    Fender had a lot of old decals to use.

    seems like they were all over the place: 61 Esquire with 1 ply, 8 hole guard, 56 with no string tree, 55 Tele with flat poles, 59 custom with 3 ply, 5 hole guard etc;

    I think I fixed it now. Jaya, go to that pic, then click on "MAIN INDEX" above and look at the gallery of older Tele photos - you'll see more examples there.
